StreetGames Volunteers Go Commonwealth Crazy!

As part of the StreetGames ‘Give and Go’ scheme 11 of our volunteers were given the opportunity to attend a variety of events at the Commonwealth Games this summer in Glasgow.

The tickets were allocated as a reward for all the voluntary hours they had given ensuring Street Games is a successful programme across Blaenau Gwent.

The trip included a four day residential stay at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre, where the volunteers took part in activities including raft building, para-jumping and Street Games pop up clubs.  There was also time to venture into Glasgow and experience some of the Commonwealth events from the spectator seats such as netball, table tennis, hockey and badminton.

The volunteers even got the chance to meet up with three of our athletes from Blaenau Gwent who were representing Team Wales in Table Tennis; Charlotte Carey, Chloe Thomas and Daniel O'Connell.

It was a fantastic experience and the volunteers came away enthused to incorporate Commonwealth sports into the delivery of their sessions.
